Welcome to Twiga Books
Mission Statement – to provide Gympie residents and visitors alike with an excellent range of reasonably priced books. We hope to achieve this by running a bookshop which will become renowned for its friendly, helpful, and happy staff, and its welcoming ambience, where customers feel free to browse the shelves at their leisure, in an atmosphere enhanced by the comfortable fittings and the soft background music which includes many of the world’s classical favourites. In many respects we resemble other bookshops on the Sunshine Coast and its hinterland, and in other aspects we are distinctly different.
We are not also running a coffee shop. There are already no less than 43 coffee outlets in town, (as of July 2017), and instead we invite anyone with a purchase of $20 or more to have a free coffee on us at Cafe Matisse just up the street, owned and operated by Jacques and Jackie, a former nurse. They also do a range of authentic French pastries, apart from their excellent coffee. Plus Jacques is also good any day for witty “frog” repartee (N’est ce pas, Jacques?)
We deal only in new books. Apart from not wishing to compete with an existing second hand book shop, new books are so cheap, we decided it is best to focus on our core business.
We see kid’s books as a good 30% of our sales, so we make sure we only stock the best and most appropriate titles. Likewise with pornography – soft and hard core – this can be acquired at the local sex shop, and has NO place at Twiga Books.
Special orders – we love doing them! It might take us two or three weeks to get them in while including them in routine orders – otherwise the freight rates are extortionate and most people do not mind waiting for their order to come (the old saying “it is often better to travel hopefully than to arrive” applies)
